Town Hall - Town Hall
The Town Hall of Alcañiz, built at the beginning of the last third of the 16th century, stands at an angle with the Lonja, in the Plaza de España. Its main façade, in stone, consists of three floors: the lower floor, with a doorway flanked by Ionic columns and topped by a triangular pediment (in the centre an 18th-century coat of arms) and the upper floor with a gallery of semicircular arches supported by Tuscan columns. The whole is crowned by a projecting wooden eave. Its brick side façade has a certain Mudejar echo. The interior houses various works of art, fragments of mural paintings, a silver chest dating from 1659 and modern sculptures, paintings and engravings.
Gothic market
The commodities exchange, located in the Plaza de España and forming a square with the Town Hall (16th century), is a magnificent example of Gothic civil architecture. Built in the 15th century, it is a transcription of the Italian "loggias" of the 15th century. It consists of three slender pointed arches, two of which have their soffits decorated with lobed arches and is topped by running arches from the 16th century and large eaves with lunettes from the 18th century.
