GUIDED TOURS
From the municipal tourist office of Alcañiz you can go on 3 different guided tours:
-Guided tour "Casco Histórico": We will walk through the old part of the town, getting to know its history and the palatial houses from the 16th century that adorn its streets and then we will go into the Civil War air-raid shelter and the Molino Mayor flour mill.
This visit takes place from Monday to Sunday at 10.30 a.m. by prior reservation and lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The price is €4.05 (€3.05 reduced rate for senior citizens and students). It is advisable to call to book in advance (978 83 12 13).
-Guided visit to the Calatravan castle: We will discover the chapel, the atrium, the cloister and the keep together with its Gothic paintings from the 14th century.
This visit takes place from Monday to Sunday at 12.30 p.m. and from Monday to Saturday at 4.15 p.m., by prior reservation (978 83 12 12 13). It lasts about 45 minutes. The price is 5€ (3'5€ reduced rate).
-Guided visit to the Gothic Tower of Santa María la Mayor: In this visit we will climb to the top of the gothic tower, after 172 steps we will discover Alcañiz from a privileged point of view, as well as knowing the different functions that each of its floors had.
This visit is on demand (no fixed timetable) and by prior reservation (978 83 12 13). It lasts about 1 hour. The price is 4'05€ (3'05€ reduced rate -pensioners and students-).
-Visit to the Underground passages, cellar and fridge: This visit is free (without a guide). It consists of two rooms: a cellar where non-perishable foodstuffs were kept; and a fridge, where perishable foodstuffs were kept as well as serving as an ice store, both related to the gothic fish market just above. There are also 3 passages that connected the city's main buildings underground.
They can be visited during the opening hours of the tourist office - through which they have access - and cost 3€ (2€ reduced rate).
